Jason So’s Custom Blue Beetle and Booster Gold featured in Toyfare

Posted by: vader at 1:09 pm on Friday, August 15, 2008

Jason So, an AFHUB old-timer and a self-confessed Alex Ross devotee, recently had a couple of his amazing customs featured in the latest issue of Toyfare Magazine. His Booster Gold and Blue Beetle based on Alex Ross’ art and style found their way to page 7 of Issue #134.

Obviously, due to copyright reasons, I cannot post here any scanned Toyfare pages that feature Jason’s work. Instead, I’m posting the actual images submitted by Jason to Wizard Publication.

Great job, Jason! And congratulations for having your work featured in what probably is the most circulated toy magazine. It’s high time that you get some well deserved recognition for the work I have long admired.

And for the rest of you out there, go grab a copy of Toyfare #134 now. It’s the one with Skeletor on the cover. If you don’t wanna buy one, go borrow one :-)

Very nice work, although it actually looks like it was based on Kevin Maguire’s art from Justice League International

Thanks, guys! Thanks for the write-up, Vader!

Yeah Ziggy you’re right, BB’s costume is based on Maguire’s JLI art. Down to his facial expression & “antennae” brows pointing away from each other.

The “Alex Ross treatment” was more on the base figure sculpts & scale, ‘coz both are from Justice figs…
and a nice plus is that BB’s face is actually a re-tooled Sinister6 boxset Green Goblin with yellow goggles which some say is based on Ross’ art, as what he did with his Green Goblin mini-head bust.
