I think it was around July of 2006 when the JLU Rocket Red figure was released locally. Upon purchasing mine, I immediately thought of several possibilities for custom figures. One of them was of Kilowog in his armor as seen on the JLU episode “The Return”.

Being a rank amateur at making customs, I thought I’d drop the idea to a professional. So I sent an email to Grundy along with a screenshot of Kilowog from the said episode of JLU. If I remember correctly, Grundy’s reply was less than enthusiastic. I think it was simple one-liner saying “you’re right…”
I suppose my idea wasn’t all that great. After all, it was just a short appearance for Kilowog and he didn’t even say a word on that episode. I think Hal Jordan had more air time when he did a cameo in The Once and Future Thing - part 2. OK, so my idea for a custom Kilowog in armor wasn’t exciting enough.
At least, that was what I thought…
Imagine my surprise when I received a neatly packaged Kilowog in his armor as a Christmas gift from Grundy last December.

This custom uses a Mattel Kilowog head on a Rocket Red body. The shoulder pads were removed with an X-acto knife and the rough parts smoothened. The ring was sculpted on and then a good paint job was applied. The emblem was laser printed and then decoupaged on.

Thanks, Grundy. I know now to simply drop custom ideas to you and wait by the Chirstmas tree come December :-)
