DC Universe Classics Wave 16

Wave 16 is shipping, right on time! Check out the pics and my thoughts below:

Robin

Probably my favorite figure in an already strong wave! With these classic Dick Grayson versions of Robin, we are that much closer to completing our Super Powers collection! The only thing that would’ve made him all the more perfect is if the modern head version included a “karate chop” right hand! Robin shows off the new double elbow and double knee articulation. Be wary of the ankle joints, and they need to be freed slowly to avoid breakage due to the flesh tone paint. He’s about as tall as Kamandi for comparison. Includes a new batarang and grapple gun.

Jonah Hex

One of the cooler figures in this wave. He’s a pretty obscure character, it kind of makes you wonder if the movie helped get him in the wave. Either way, he’s got two guns and loads of detail! What he loses in the ab crunch he makes up for in paint details.

Mercury

We can’t get all of the Metal Men (including Doc Magnus!) soon enough! Mercury features a really thin, highly articulated sculpt. His optional scissor accessory hand is fully functioning as well. He also sports an interchangeable regular hand, but exercise extreme caution while swapping! The peg is small, and could snap if you aren’t careful! He’s got a nice “glittery” sheen to him as well.

Riddler

For those of you who missed out (or simply didn’t care for) the wave 5 Riddler, fear not! This is THE version of Eddie Nygma you’ve been waiting for! He’s pretty big and muscular, but the Riddler has been drawn this way, so it’s not too out of the question. He also includes the same cane accessory from the wave 5 version.

Azrael Batman

Now we’re talking! First, let’s get this out of the way. Yes, the gauntlet blades are backwards. Yes, at the Q&A at Comicon, toy Guru stated they’d be corrected if possible. I guess there just wasn’t enough time to catch this prior to cutting the molds. And you know what? It just doesn’t bother me at all. He’s one of the coolest figures they’ve done to date. Of interesting note, he features the Hasbro-style elbow joints, and it aids here greatly. Don’t sleep on this one! Hopefully we can get a stage-1 repaint in red!

Creeper

OK, I hate to admit it, but the Creeper here just isn’t a favorite of mine. He’s tall, VERY yellow, and has the new double elbow and knee joints. Sadly, his feet and boots don’t allow the sculpt to take advantage of this added articulation. Sorry, but he’s my least favorite of the bunch. However, if the Creeper is your cup of tea, you might find him way more satisfying than myself.

Bane

Wave 16’s Collect-N-Connect figure in this Bat-centric wave is none other than Bane himself! Ever since the DCSH days, we’ve asked for a larger Bane, Darkseid, and Doomsday. Let’s hope Mattel goes 3 for 3 in 2011. Bane reuses the buck from Despero and Lobo, and therefore is similarly sized. Because of this, he’s a lot less, well, “’roided out”. That said, he’s very successful, and the venom tube is removable, which make for lots of fun! You’ll want to not miss out on this one.
