The box is actually unassembled. You will have to apply glue to the edges of the box to get this pose to work. I opted to use magic tape, which kinda took some of the paper surface off when I was peeling the tape off after this photo. I wish they gave us foldable slots instead so there'd be no need to glue the edges together.

Last but not least, he comes with 4 cigarette sticks, it's a shame it doesn't come with a pack, so we'd know the brand.

I'm no fan of smoking, but I have to admit it does make Snake look badass. In the Metal Gear Solid games, the smoke is used to spot infra red sensors.




The scale is a bit off for 6". I guess it's closer to 5.5"? He looks small next to DCUC figures...





....But he looks good next to the newer Marvel Legends.





I really hope Max Factory gives us MSG1 Solid Snake.

Personally, I think it sucks that these weapons are exclusive to each other (Black Getter does not come with Tomahawks and Getter 1 does not come with the guns). I think Bandai should've done a solid for the fans and made them both accessible to both versions. It's not like we're going to buy the Black Getter just for the guns. Shame on you, Bandai.





Getter weighs roughly 157 Grams. Diecast parts include the lower legs, upper part of the torso and the torso-connecting joints.




Overall, it looks better than Getter 1, even thought they didn't improve on the primary design or anything, particularly with regards to the tummy area. I guess with the grey and black colors, plus the matte finish paint and paint apps on the cape, makes the horrible tummy design less noticable? Maybe...

Comparison with the first release Grendizer








I recall there was some mention of a retooling of the head back in the day. I guess it was just a mistranslation. Both heads have the same sculpt. Just different colors.

It really sucks that we don’t get these effects parts with this set.

The Good
-Weigh in
-- Spazer – 146 Grams
-- Grendizer -171 Grams (curiously, the original SRC Grendizer is 170 Grams…)
-- Grendizer + Spazer – 312 Grams







-Diecast parts are the same with the stand alone SRC Grendizer (upper torso, lower legs and primary joints)


-Show accurate colors! It’s like Grendizer walked right out of the cartoon. The only downside is that the white paint now sort of clashes with the silver colors on SRC Mazinger and Great Mazinger.






-“Spazer Cross” is easy to do and slots in perfectly. The “compressed” sides gimmick for Grendizer’s arms inside the Spazer is pretty sweet and certainly feels a lot easier to do compared to the Cm’s Corp. version.


-Swapping out the saucer accessories is relatively clever and easy to do (just push them sideways until the lids pop free) . Slick job here Bandai.


-Optional Soul Stage Act 4 included for the Spazer was a nice touch.





The Bad
-Zero diecast on the Spazer. I was hoping for a little somewhere, anywhere. Zilch….

-Popping in the wings of the Spazer is a bit tricky, and I am worried about repeatedly popping them in and out over time will break something. I liked the way it was done on the SOC back then.

-That line gap on this back parts of the lower legs. It was already awkward to look at with the original SRC release back then, so I was really hoping they would fix this with this release with simply painting a red line down to fix the “gap”.





-Both versions of the Spazers are Tamashii Web Exclusives! It would have been nice, if, at the very least, Bandai made one of them a mass retail release for folks who don’t have access to TWEs IMHO.


-No Koji’s little TFO? Was hoping they would throw this in. It’s not as if Bandai will be releasing a stand alone TFO in the foreseeable future.




The Ugly

Personally I hate the fact that the set does not come with the “effects” accessories from the stand alone Grendizer set. It wouldn’t add much to the cost of the set and it would have made this set perfect.



Despite of a few misses, this set is still really impressive. The flat, disc-like look of the Spazer is very spot on to the Anime. I dare say this is the most show accurate representation of the Spazer in toy form so far (the releases from other companies always seemed too bulky for me).

The big feet really make the figure look and feel more balanced.




I’m not too crazy about the fingers though, they make the hand look spindly, I prefer the default hands for my gestalts.










The feet become giant gattling guns.




While the fingers become rifles.








Just a quick note, the best part about the white parts set is that the gatling guns have painted barrels, unlike the black and purple sets, which do not.



The cominber wars just got a whole lot better thanks to these parts!!

Wow… where did the time go?? I got this thing 2 months ago and I only manage to fiddle with it this week. Work… sigh…


Anywho, this figure is the “Ultimate” version of movie Prime. It’s basically Striker Optimus Prime and comes with all the accessories and bells and whistles that came with all the previous releases from TF movies 1 to 3 (Buster, Striker and Jetwing Optimus Primes). It’s also painted better and has a ton of detailed paint applications not found on the previous releases.

Prime also comes with electronics, if you push the belly tab, he only says “ We must stop the Decepticons” though.





I believe this is also the first version of movie Prime to feature articulated fingers. They’re a nice touch but nothing epic, since the fingers aren’t individual. They move in pairs.
