May is officially awesome month for Marvel movies. From "X2" in '03 and "Spider-Man 3" in '07 to 2008's "Iron Man," there's no doubt that Marvel and May make a solid team. And now we can chalk another surefire success to the list when "X-Men Origins: Wolverine" slashes its way into theaters May 1, 2009!
Reprising his role as Wolverine from the "X-Men" movies, Hugh Jackman stars in the blockbuster which, according to VARIETY, could feature a young William Stryker, Sabretooth, Weapon X and a bevy of other mutants—both returning and new characters.
Additional cast members haven't been announced yet, but joining Jackman are director Gavin Hood ("Tsotsi") and writer David Benioff ("The Kite Runner"). With filming tentatively scheduled to begin by the end of 2007, look for more "X-Men Origins: Wolverine" news and announcements here on Marvel.com.

The Stuff reports that the upcoming "Wolverine" movie will be set in the 1970's and much of the explosive finale will be shot on New Zealand's south island.
The scenes, which include a sniper rocket blowing up a barn of a farmhouse property called Hudson Farm, will be shot around Arcadia Station in mid-January for eight days.
Sets are being constructed there and at Deer Park Heights. Other scenes will be shot at Kingston Beach, Milford Sound, Rees Valley, Skippers Canyon and Naseby Forest.
Pre-production is currently under way at Fox Studios in Sydney.

First Official "Wolverine" Photo
After the release of this photo from the set of "X-Men Origins: Wolverine" earlier this week met not-so-kind reaction, 20th Century Fox went to USA Today yesterday to premiere the first official publicity still from their X-Men spin-off feature.
The accompanying article says the film will trace Wolverine's past as he discovers the world of mutants and, ultimately, the ominous Weapon X program which turns people into living weapons.
Wolverine's nemesis Sabretooth "is going to play a big part in it. And there will be a good bit of cameos" of new and familiar mutants Jackman says. He adds "But you can't give too much away, because fans are pretty hard-core. Their expectations go up a level every time you come out with a new film."

AICN reports that Ryan Reynolds will be suiting up to play anti-hero Deadpool in "X-Men Origins: Wolverine" currently in production.
Reynolds has been attached to both the role of Deadpool and The Flash in their own films for some time, but Deadpool's appearance in the "X-Men" spin-off is expected to be our first glimpse at the red and grey suited sword-swinging assassin.
Leading up to the events of X-Men, "Wolverine" tells the story of Wolverine's epically violent and romantic past, his complex relationship with Victor Creed, and the ominous Weapon X program. Along the way, Wolverine encounters many mutants, both familiar and new, including surprise appearances by several legends of the X-Men universe.
Meanwhile Superhero Hype repors that "Friday Night Lights" star Taylor Kitsch has signed a three-picture deal to play Gambit (AKA Remy LeBeau). The pair join Hugh Jackman (Wolverine), Liev Schreiber (Sabretooth), Danny Huston (William Stryker) and Lynn Collins (Silver Fox) in the 20th Century Fox release opening May 1st 2009.
Shooting moves to Sydney, Australia this week and some filming in Glebe Point Park is scheduled for next Friday.

Wolverine to have multiple secret endings??
http://enewsi.com/news.php?catid=190&itemid=15014
" They've hidden multiple secret endings on different prints and theaters will be showing different versions. Hood didn't say how many different endings there would be."
Sheesh.. So one would have to watch the ending over and over again across a lot of cinemas?? I think I'll just wait for the DVD..
