This is one big bummer to all 24 fans

Fox have confirmed that they won't be starting the seventh season of "24" until January 2009.

It could also be a good thing. For one, it will help build up more anticipation for another season. What with last season's terrible plot, this could be what we need to get our enthusiasm back again.

But yeah, 2009 is too far, too long to wait for.

The producers of Fox's "24" are developing a two-hour "prequel" to the upcoming seventh season of the real-time thriller reports Reuters.

The movie, designed to bridge the two-year gap between Seasons 6 and 7, is targeted to air in the Fall before the show's January return.

The most significant TV casualty of the writer's strike, production on the seventh season was halted eight episodes in.

As the strike went on, the network decided to push the real-time drama back a full year and are still sticking by that plan.

Production on this TV movie and the remaining sixteen episodes is slated to begin in April.

The theatrical movie version will be set after the series ends at season 8 or season 9. Smile Well, that was before the strike. Any update?

Fox's "24" is officially shutting down for eighteen days to allow writers to work on upcoming scripts reports Reuters.

Production will shut down between September 15th and October 9th as the writers retool and rework the scripts for the final six episodes of the upcoming seventh season.

The reason for the delay is that executive producer/showrunner Howard Gordon had been concerned about the quality of several scripts for upcoming episodes. Production on the series has been underway since April.

The delay is the latest in a long line of issues that have plagued the hit series. After huge success with its Emmy-winning fifth season in 2006, the show's sixth season took a critical drubbing.

The seventh season started production later than expected due to scripting and story issues, and the series was then subject to a five month shut down due to the writer's strike.

This work stoppage won't affect the launch of the seventh season in January, or the two-hour prequel which has been completed and will air on November 24th.
