The DC Direct line has been displaying at Toy Fair a line of anime-influenced figures of girl heroes. They’re all boobs, baby faces, and look-at-my-body-parts poses.

Would it be possible to create some female figures that actually looked like they could kick some butt?
Y’know, as opposed to action figures that look like table dancers dressed in costumes. I don’t think I’m flaming- I just call ‘em like I see ‘em.

In fact, they’re really really creepy.
They look like hentai dolls.

Actually, I’m digging the Batgirl figure. I’d pick that one up without hesitation. Probably get the Catgirl so she has a nemesis on the shelf.
SG and PG are questionable, though.
I agree with what I read on another forum…these seem kind of like just a cut under a Bome figure, but that’s not really a bad thing, as some of those figures are really well done.
There’s also a Wonder Woman and Poison Ivy in the works, as well as some variants on the above figs.
I’d like to see this line continue. It’d be interesting to see what their take on Big Barda, Stargirl, Starfire and Raven might be.

You know what I want to see?
Batman posed like this. Also, let’s put Robin in some compromising pose.
No, I’m not serious, unless of course, DC is.
Would never have expected them to include a 16-year old Kara in a line up of hentai-inspired figures, which is what this looks like. Sure, it’s Anime- but it’s shitty anime, not GITS or Champloo or Bebop.
As for the boobs, sure they’re big, and I’m used to seeing that; but what’s with the anti-gravity?

They look all pretty good except the power girl one her face looks funny and why does power girl need oven-mitt boxing gloves?

Sadly, the anime-style Supergirl looks just the ways she’s drawn in her current book. And that’s terrible.

Who are these marketed to? Certainly not me. My superheroines know that they have a job to do and wouldn’t be caught dead breaking a heel or exposing tender parts to bullet fire.
Seriously, these could have been cute if they didn’t resemble fetish figurines.

The batwoman one is ok, although the reason for that is it’s just a recolor of an old Gatchaman fig. All of the others look horrible — as bad as crappy imitation “animu” fanart.

Eh, all reservations aside they look like well sculpted, good quality models.
Like it or not Marvel and DC are loosing ground to the mainstreaming of japanese materiel print or animated. I seriously doubt Either great house will ever disappear, but they aregoing to find themselves in a position where they will be addapting to the market not setting it.
We can only hope that if it all comes down to it, they will emulate quality stuff, not the qucik and dirty bulk productions.
On the flip, I wonder what DC would do re-telling Gundam wing?

I like them.
I’d like them if they were half naked guys too.
I don’t find sexuality objectionable in and of itself, even if it is overly cartoony.

Bat Girl is what I’d expect her to look like inAnime Style..
But what the hell happened with Power Girl she looks like a Blow-Up Love Doll!!!!

What I’m confused about is people commenting on these figures as “slutty” or overly sexual.
AND? Is it really “offensive” to you that a figure is based on female sexuality? Better yet, does it surprise you?
Even if a figure was created that didn’t accent the t&A, wouldn’t that female figure be looked upon as attractive, regardless?

I can dig the Batgirl figure, she’s nice. Not really much that has been changed. just sorta took the classic version and stylized her a bit.
Oh, and gave her a visor.
The Catgirl one gets severe props. Sorry, I can’t help it. I love the costume and the short hair. She has a balance of cute and sexy, and she looks almost dangerous, but it’s like it’s hidden underneath her cuteness, which I think is totally fitting for a cat.
Supergirl is acceptable, but her neck is just a smidge too long, and I totally agree with the paper napkin comment that David H made. I can’t help but wonder what type of underwear she has if she has any at all (the way her skirt rests on her hips, and the fact they aren’t showing already, her options are limited)
Powergirl… yeah, that didn’t work. They need to rework her face completely, and her costume just a bit, either that or turn her just a few degrees, cause it might just be a really bad angle for the picture. Either way, she didn’t work well.
All in all, I like the style. People are looking at this as flagrant sex-appeal, etc, but since when has that ever NOT been the case for DC and Marvel? It’s just the style for sex appeal has changed since the characters were first envisioned.

I’d pick Batgirl and then Catgirl. I’ve never been into the Superman series, so I don’t fancy Supergirl that much, but I wouldn’t discard getting that one.
Powergirl on the other hand… is giving me goosebumps, so no. :(

Seriously, I’m loving the overall complaining about this. In an overused axiom, if you don’t like them, don’t buy them. They’re no more “slutty” looking than most of their DCU versions, hell the Power Girl has actually MORE skin covered than her DCU version. The Supergirl costume is almost the same as her DCU rep, the only one really showing anymore skin is Catwoman.
I’m getting them….but then again, I’m a pervy chick anyway.

Mmmmmm…. Well, I’d have to pick up Catwoman because she’s just my favorite character but I really _do_ love the pose. I mean, come on, she’s Catwoman. Isn’t she suppose to be sexy/cute so that she can be a tease to Batman? Then again, I’m sure I haven’t read as many of the comics as the rest of you…
I really dig Batgirl’s outfit but the particular pose they have her in reminds me of a disco dancer… sorry… ^^;;;
As for Supergirl and Powergirl, I’m afraid this is the first time I’ve EVER heard of Powergirl (though I agree her breasts look a little too large) and while I find Supergirl cute… she REALLY needs a longer outfit. Come on, you really think Clark would let her fly around like that?!

ha ha, you guys are funny. T&A sells otherwise anime never would have survived, cause that is all it is. DC and Marvel adapting to the trend? have any of you read comics for more than 5 years? maybe more skin now, but definately no more provocative than any one of these were in the 80’s and 90’s. sex has always sold.

I would only buy the Batgirl one…no interest in the others. And I agree with the other posters – why can’t they make a decent anime girl figure without looking like a slutty table dancer –
I wish they had gone a different way with the Catwoman one – they could have made her pretty cool and not so…blah.

“i wanna buy the supergirl, how can i do that?”
First, demolish any sense of dignity you once had. Next, have 3/4 of your brain surgically removed. Finally, spend 48 hours straight trying to figure out why Rob Liefeld still gets work. After doing all this, you will either be a comatose vegetable, or you’ll be ready to receive ownership of such a erm…’delightful’ figurine….
