Toy Shopping in Hong Kong – Wanchai

Posted by: vader at 5:52 pm on Thursday, May 24, 2007

Continuing from our coverage of toy shops in Causeway Bay, we now proceed to the district of Wanchai. Wanchai is just one MTR stop from Causeway Bay and is actually also reachable by foot (for people with more stamina).

The place to keep an eye out for is Tai Yuen Street – conveniently located just across MTR exit A3. This photo was taken just upon coming out of said exit. Tai Yuen is a small side street across Johnston Road (which pedestrians crossing in the photo).

Take MTR exit A3 and cross Johnston Road.

When you reach Tai Yuen, look on both side of the street as there are about 5 toy shops hidden behind street hawkers. The place is a street market so be prepared to inch your way through hordes of people. I also recommend bringing bottled water as this area can get pretty hot with the sheer volume of people.

The following photos are of the different toy shops along Tai Yuen (click on image to view larger versions). It’s important to note that the toy shops in this area don’t look anything like Toys R Us or other “regular” toy shops one might be used to seeing. They look more like dry goods store so try to look beyond the obvious.
