Walt Kelly is considered to be one of the most influential cartoonist and animators of the 20th century. Walt Kelly: The Life and the Art of the Creator of Pogo takes an in depth look at the life of Walt Kelly with essays by scholars Tom Andrea, Carsten Laqua, Mark Burstien and Kelly’s stepson, Scott Daley. This monograph focuses on his early years with Disney through the remembrances of Ward Kimball, with a detailed look at Kelly’s working methods, and a comprehensive analysis of Pogo and the politics of the 1950s-1970s. The tribute to the cartoon of Pogo is full of original never before seen Disney art, Kelly’s comic book and book covers, newspaper strips and animation art.

Join the Cartoon Art Museum in San Fransico on Tuesday July 3, from 7-9pm, for a meet and greet with the authors of Walt Kelly: The Life and Art of the Creator of Pogo Tom Andrea, Carsten Laqua, Mark Burstien and Scott Daley! They will hold a short introduction and question/answer panel with a book signing at the end of the discussion.
